    What year did the tourney go to 64 teams? And to 32 for that matter?

    1951-1952: 16 teams
    1953-1974: 22-25 teams
    1975-1978: 32 teams
    1979: 40 teams
    1980-1982: 48 teams
    1983: 52 teams
    1984: 53 teams
    1985-2000: 64 teams

    I think '76 was the first year two teams from the ACC went. UVA and UNC.

    So, in the old days, it was both harder to get your team in the playoffs and there were fewer games to be won. Coach K and every coach who chases that record in the future is benfitting from playoff inflation.

    Nope, just the FACT that until 85, it was a lot tougher to rack up wins in the tourney.

    Anyway, Wooden has the greatest NCAA Basketball record of all time and nobody is probably gonna come close to sniffing it.
