I'm reading the first Kurt Austin book, 'Serpent'. While it's a good book, it doesn't seem to be any different than all the other Dirk Pitt books. Just different hobbies and expertises of the main characters.

Maybe Cussler didn't intend to get away from his formula of success.

Cussler only laid down the basic plot and development or creation of the characters, Paul Kemprecos wrote it then Cussler went over it and added a few things but Paul Kemprecos wrote it and the other two "Numa Files" books. That being said I did very much enjoy the stories and recommend them.

FYI: Sahara the movie is stalled in pre-production due to casting and the finding of a director. Clive and the first director had creative differences, and they have yet to cast Pitt.

Cussler is currently writing the next Dirk Pitt Novel due out next fall :)

I was hoping you'd chime in. I didn't realize Clive was basically lending his name to the book.

It is more than that, they are true co-authors. creatively that is. kemprikos writes the dialog and stuff but CC provides most of the plot and story line. my understaning is CC sends kemprikos the the idea, paul write a chapter, CC edits it and sends it back then the next chapter. So Kemprikos is not really a ghost writer.

None the less I found them good reads.

He never was intended to be. :) But he is a good action hero type character.

Heard any rumors about who Clive wants to be Pitt?

Too bad Ray Walston is dead; he'd make a great Sandecker.

CC wants Hugh Jackman but he has too many commitments in the works right now, CC wants a relative unknown to play Pitt.

Seems like we've talked about this before. Jackman isn't what I had in mind.
