There were a lot of folks on this board that wanted Portis over Foster before and after the draft last season. I feel compelled to mention that Portis has numbers that rival any back in the league after that monster week last week. Portis did this with limited carries for most of the year. ATP, the Panthers missed BIGTIME on that draft pick. I would love to see Foster return and he has talent but to me, the Panthers better not start a trend of taking players with known risks over talented players with less risk. Offensive system means a lot - but we could really use a Portis here.

Who are this years risky picks and which ones would you stay away from most? Washington (injury), Leftwich (injury), Palmer (inconsistency over career), Ragone (throwing motion), etc

just a bit of info about Portis -

    Clinton Portis, RB DEN
Portis reportedly played with nausea on Sunday. The Rocky Mountain News said he played with a stomach-type flu in Week 15. Portis totaled four TDs despite the illness. Portis did fumble twice. "I knew I was sick, but I wouldn't tell the coaches. It was a big game and I wanted to play. I was going to go out and do everything I could," Portis said.

I just thought that was kinda cool...

So I guess Portis will be the next in line of wouldn't-have-beens that our fans will pine for?

Doenst matter, it's the Panther curse. If Foster played for Denver, he would have scored 4 td's yesterday and Portis would be on IR for the Panthers.

Not really, but Portis and Foster were specifically debated on this board. Foster had big risks that some on this board saw. To bad others here, and the Panthers didn't.

I'm more giving Portis his props than bashing the Panthers. Foster has a lot of talent and could've been a great one if healthy. I still hope he can get back somehow. :(

And Bear's right. We are fuk'n cursed.

Exactly what I was thinking. If Portis would have come here-he would have been under the pile in New England.

I was split down the middle on them at the draft. Foster was a good pick.

That's kinda unfair, isn't it? There were injury concerns with everyone. There was the fumble situation. Everyone was aware of that. He was also the right back for this system - enough speed and moves to be a feature, but with power.

I devalued Portis to mid-second round because his game is speed. We don't run a speed game. He's also just not the right runner for this type offense. He'd get beat up fast as well. He was being rated as high as first round because he ran a blazing speed. To me, a sub 4.3 doesn't matter if you don't work well with your system. Ask Biakabutuka.

    Yep.

It pisses me off that pretty much everyone I know on this board had us picking Peppers / Portis.

I had no idea the difference would be this dramatic.

I'll admit that I was glad that we drafted Foster over Portis. I'm glad Portis is excelling. I think Bear is right on the money.

I hope we get to see Foster on the field and see what he could have been before this injury... but I know that's a long shot.
