I disagree. Ruben's version of Imagine was awesome. The difference between Ruben and Clay is that Ruben can take a song like Imagine or Sweet Home Alabama, songs he might not particularly be suited for, and is still awesome. Clay has to pick shitty songs like that second song to stay within his comfort zone. Except for the last note his version of Bridge Over Troubled Water wasn't overwhelming. I had chills listening to Ruben do Imagine.

I think Ruben won the night last night. Clay's song choices were not good at all. He started off okay, and went downhill from there.

I didn't care for Ruben's "Imagine" in the least. Clay should've sung it. Maybe I associate that song to much to John Lennon in my own mind to allow myself to enjoy Ruben taking a crack at it.

But IMO, the performance of the night was Ruben singing "Fly Without Wings".

Overall, I think Clay's been the better singer over the past 2 or 3 weeks, but like Simon said, Ruben definitely saved his best for last. Both will make some fairly serious $$$ within the next year.

BTW, did anyone notice Ruben looking awfully anxious last night? He was almost paranoid. It was weird.

i agree. i must have gotten thru at least 30 times last night. All i know is that i have ALWAYS HATED that stupid ass song "Bridge Over Troubled Waters"...and then i heard Clay's rendition. Now, i can't get enough of hearing that song. I still get chills when i hear Clay sing it. I'm not much for remakes, but Clay should remake that one. GO CLAY!!!

Ruben just did the same ole crap he's been doing all season. I like song diversity and Ruben just didn't do it for me.

I think it's just me - but I was grossly disappointed after last night. I didn't think Ruben did `Flying without wings' very well - and missed notes all over the place, Clay sounded the campest I've ever heard him - except for `Bridge over Troubled Water' - which blew me away. Tonight should be interesting! :)

i think they are both great singers, but hte problem is that they are SO different. it's almost like apples and oranges -- both fruits, but which one do you like more?

well, clay may be a fruit...

anyway, i think that i can see either of them winning and being deserving. hell, all it a tie and bring htem back for one more night. wouldn't that be fox-like?

Ruben deserved to win. Clay didn't suck but he wasn't as good as Ruben.

He took it. He's simply more talented.

Too bad the Observer still spent first page space talking all about Aiken.

It was a toss up for sure, but if I were to buy either one's CD it would be Ruben's over Clay's.

Although very good, I don't care for Clay's style of music other than when he did a Journey song way back in the start.
