That's a great article AK, I've wondered where people who have died actually are, I never saw any evidence of how movies and songs talk about our loved ones watching us from heaven. Do you see earth as the new heaven?

Philippians 1:21-25. "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;"

"18For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, 19through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison 20who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah..." --1 Peter 3:18-20

Not sure where everyone who has died is "hanging out" until His return, but my understanding is that once all is said and done, earth will become the new heaven.

And I've never bought into the idea that deceased loved ones can look down on us from heaven (if that's where they are for now). Heaven is described as a place free from sorrow and pain.
    • And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
      --Revelation 21:4
If our loved ones are indeed in heaven, I can't imagine how they could possibly look down upon the earth without feeling sorrow and pain.

Could this be a matter of mis-punctuation in translation? (And for that matter, how many other translations). Suppose it more accurately might be:

"I tell you the truth today; you will be with me in paradise."

Things that make me go, "Hmmmmm."

I've heard that Heaven is a planet, based on several veres in the Bible.
