Church of Christ, Scientist, often known as Christian Science, is a religious denomination that arose in New England in the late nineteenth century. It considers itself to be a Christian denomination and is generally classed as such. It has about 2,000 branches (local churches) in over 70 countries, with The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts being the headquarters of all the denomination's activities.
The church was founded by the American, Mary Baker Eddy, in 1879 following a personal healing experience in 1866, which she believed to be the result of her understanding "...that all causation was Mind, and every effect a mental phenomenon." (Ret 24:10) The Bible and Eddy's book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures are together the church's key doctrinal sources and have been ordained as the church's "dual impersonal pastor".
The First Church of Christ, Scientist is widely known for its publications, especially the Christian Science Monitor, a daily newspaper published internationally in print and on the Internet. The Church is controversial for its encouragement of prayer for healing when others might choose modern medicine. There have also been periodic tensions with those Christian denominations who reject the idea it is a Christian denomination because of unorthodox tenets it holds.
Christian Science has no connection with Scientology, which was founded about 75 years after Christian Science and which is not based on Christianity. It is also not connected to Religious Science, a recent denomination in line with the New Thought tradition.
Christian Science's most common symbol is the Cross and Crown.

Tom Cruise is not CS, and CS is nowhere near anything Scientology is.
Christian Scientists have taken some flack for a few fundamentalists allowing their children/selves to die rather than seeking medical attention. Part of my family is CS, but are more toward the ideas of it than the ideals of it. In its base beliefs, not much different from most things out there, just more focused on the subconscious and prayer as tools.

Scientology is a system of beliefs and practices created by American pulp fiction author L. Ron Hubbard in 1952 as a self-help philosophy. By 1960 Hubbard had redefined it as a "religion by its basic tenets". [1] The Church of Scientology, by far the largest organization promoting the belief system of Scientology, is sometimes referred to simply as "Scientology".
The Church of Scientology presents itself as a religious non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of the human spirit and providing counseling and rehabilitation programs. Church spokespeople claim that Hubbard's teachings (called "technology" or "tech" in Scientology terminology) have saved them from addictions, arthritis, depression, learning disabilities, mental illness, cancer, homosexuality and other perceived problems.
The controversial organization has attracted much criticism and distrust throughout the world because of its closed nature and strong-arm tactics in handling critics.[2] Lawmakers, including national governing bodies of several countries, have characterized the Church as an unscrupulous commercial organization, citing harassment of critics and exploitation of its members.[3] Scientology's principles have been characterized as pseudoscientific by scientists, medical doctors and psychotherapeutic practitioners. Because of these factors, Scientology has frequently been perceived as a cult and a pseudoreligion. [4]
There are approximately 55,000 Scientology adherents in the United States according to a survey published by the U.S. Census bureau.[5] The worldwide number of adherents is disputed. The Church of Scientology claims between 9 million and 10 million followers. Adherents.com suggests there may be 500,000 adherents worldwide [6] while other groups say the number is likely to be less than 100,000 total. [7]

Thanks yesca, i was getting it confused with scientology. My friend told me she was a christian scientist. She says it teaches that we are all Gods children and that we are all perfect just like God is and that we have to love everyone cause they are made in Gods likeness.
