True, I just want to know why anyone would want to follow satan. I have not heard anything yet except a desire to flip off christanity.

I'm glad to hear that it wasn't a fit for you in my own humanist way. :D ecilam, I can tell from your posts on this board that your nature isn't one of selfishness and narcissism.

I can also see why the LeVey Satanist view would be an attractive alternative to Christianity for some without it being a simple FU to the mainstream faith. Very similar to some of the more self based "New Age" philosophies, it empowers the individual over the collective community. Much of the appeal of religion is the feeling of power for the powerless, either through divine intervention or through self-empowerment.

To me, any religion can be prone to this type of thinking but Satanism seems, more than any other, to celebrate a seperation from others.

i would be sad about it, no doubt. but it is THEIR choice as to what they do with their lives, not mine. i know of some faithful older christians that have sons in prison. they (parents) are still loyal to God. our children cant get to heaven on OUR salvation. it is a choice they must make alone. i would still love them as much regardless. understanding the Word helps me to decipher most of lifes circumstances in regards as to how i react to them and live with them.

Anyone who truly worships satan would have to be extremely rare. Satanism is mostly just those who wish to thumb their noses at christianity. I would not think a person would stay in that religion for very long so I would probably be less worried about a child becoming a satanist than I would a muslim or hindu.

I would be upset either way. Actually its a very common thing. I heard somewhere that Barna research has stated that around 80% of young Christians walk away from their faith while in college. Most come back at some point. Its a very natural part of growing up to rebel against parental authority.

I would talk to my son, communicate that I love him regardless, and pray like crazy. I would put it in Gods hands and trust that my son will come back.

I would be more upset with choice B. Mainly because The Bible is the truth and the truth is to be saved by The blood of Jesus. At times we loose faith, but when we ask for Salvation we will always have that.

The only thing I could do is pray about it. Eventually he would come back to faith in Jesus again, hopefully.

I'm kind of shocked that the majority of replies tend toward option `B' as being the most disturbing, as it tends to imply a reluctance to look at the possibility that Christianity may not be the be end all of all religious beliefs.

I was raised (a poor black child...okay, no - just kidding :) ) in a conservative home with the basis on Christianity, but a very open `theme' if you will, that there may well be something else when we get to the `other side' and my Mother and I certainly explored the spiritual aspects of our belief systems and tended to settle on that. My sister on the other hand, at the age of eighteen went off and joined the Hare Krishnas. At the time, my parents were so devastated - primarily because she was so instantly `into it' that it appeared as though she had been brainwashed after a weekend retreat. Regardless, they got used to it - and felt that as long as she was happy, that was the main thing. It certainly changed her life - I think for the better. It enriched her and we have a stronger relationship possibly because of it. I guess I wanted to share that, to prove that there is life in other religions and faiths - and it can be a positive experience for some :).
