And if it's his kid, how can he argue that his kid's decision is wrong?

He's saying it's wrong in his opinion. Damn, don't you know what in the hell an 'opinion' is?

How would you react and why?

IMO (get it? not really? sorta, kinda?) I think Spud would try to argue with his kid and convince the kid that there was something wrong with his/her decision. BUT I don't know how you do that when your own beliefs are based on faith.

    Just to clarify....

Non-biblical religion? Are we talking non-King James version of our bible or without a bible at all? Satanism or Judiasm?

A religion not based on the Bible in any way. That would exclude Judaism, and by a certain stretch, Islam. All can be considered "religions of the Book," as they share certain prophets and concepts of God.

Satanism, Buddhism, Native American Shamanism, or any number of heathen/pagan systems would fit this question. For purposes of this topic, say that your grown/teenage child is not under the sway of some charismatic "leader," but came to a desire to change on their own over time, maybe after discovering some literature or having a life-changing experience.

    EDIT--
P.S. King George made a Bible?

As it relates to Satanism, the question gets much murkier for me. I will freely admit that I am not expert on the subject, but if he worshiped Satan, I would have a problem because it is diametrically opposed to my beliefs.

I'd be interested in what he (my child) does base his beliefs upon. My wife wouldn't be as tolerant, nor her whole family. I tend to be more open-minded about things. It would be a struggle, however, if he were completely without faith. It would be against everything we've modeled for him.

I think a lack of belief is better than a false belief. Satan creates false religion to trap people and prevent them from coming to the truth.
