I have been working about for about three months now and have been under a doctor's supervision. I have been taking Phenterimine to reduce apetite and it has worked to some degree. I have lost about 12 pounds overall but according to his body fat scale I have gained about 8 pounds of muscle and my total fat loss is about 20 pounds. Just when I was feeling good about all this my test results came in and my Cholesterol is 233. He has put me on Zocor to help bring it down. Anyone have any advice on dealing with this or know any bad side effects of Zocor? I do not know what it was before I started working out so it might have been much worse three months ago.

Do a search on Zocor and you'll find information on it. That's what I did when the doctor was going to put me on it when my cholesterol went up 12 points. I decided against taking it because I hope to reduce mine by diet and weight loss. I think my doctor put me on it too fast and after talking to my stepsister who is a nurse, weighed the options and decided against it.

He is big on vitamins too. He has me taking fish oil tablets too. I do not plan to stay on Zocor long term but if it helps bring it down faster I guess it is alright for a while.

Because I'm on the Atkins I went on fish oil and vitamin tabs to help make sure I'm getting all the necessary vitamins and minerals. Wierd thing is that it makes my pee a mountain dew color! LOL

Do the research on Zocor anyways.......I was worried about some of the side effects.

dont know zoccor or its effects, however, i know flax seed oil works. i take 500 mg of it daily to lower my cholesterol. dont know my count either. i think mine is just bordering on high, tho. so flax seed oil is preventive. ask your doctor about it, thelt. it might help you too. on top of that preventive effort, i watch my cheese, eggs, etc. intake. and i stay away from salty foods.

btw, you can get flax seed oil at GNC. that is where i get it. i imagine you can get it elsewhere too.

fish oil, flaxseed oil, etc are all omega three oils which are high in the "good" cholesterol. Basically, they act like drano for your body. another good one is evening primrose oil...especailly for women who have tough mentstral cycles. You can buy these at Harris Teeter now-a-days. I've found the best prices on most herberal supplements and oils to be at Target.
