Are they crazy or for real?

I carry shitloads of weight on my right shoulder every day and I have for over six years and my back is now paying for it. I exercise fairly regularly, and that includes back excersizes, but it just hurts like hell and I don't see it going away until I change careers, which I'd rather not do.

    What are ya'lls opinions?

you may need an adjustment to assure that your vertebrae are/reamain properly aligned. you could have muscular and/or slight skeletal issues going on. they go hand in hand. its worth a shot to get checked out in my opinion. at least you wont be eating any pills.

There are probably some charlatans out there--but the same goes for all sorts of medical practitioners.

A good chiropractor can offer tremendous relief from pain without drugs. As upright creatures, our spines are constantly under stress; & it stands to reason that correcting & maintaining proper spinal alignment is important to health & well-being. Exercise & posture are very important; but a good chiropractor can be a godsend.

I've had great success with chiropractic adjustments. Not only do they relieve pain by getting the spine back in proper alignment, but they also help release the knots your muscles get into when you're "out of whack." I always feel some instant relief (sometimes followed by soreness if I've been particularly "knotted up"); & I always feel re-energized, as well.

Check the doc's credentials, & ask a lot of questions. If s/he doesn't take x-rays before beginning, something's wrong. If they don't give clear answers without a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, don't trust them. They should take just as full a medical history as any other doctor.

Edit: A good chiropractor can also offer valuable advice on how to counteract whatever unusual stresses you put on your spine due to work.

One of the chiropractors who used to treat me was also an M.D., & chose to focus his practice on chiropractic care.

Good as many orthopedic surgeons may be, they tend to focus their treatments on what they know best & profit from--prescribing drugs & performing surgery. Why go that route unless you've first tried less invasive measures & not gotten relief? Or unless your condition simply isn't treatable by chiropractic measures?

To each his own--but I wouldn't condemn the whole profession for such a lame & untrue reason.

Chiropractors are great and I would highly recommend them! Just like all professions there are some that make you keep coming back and back but ask around and go to one that is recommended!

I had a slipped disc in my back that caused me a lot of pain down my leg from a pinched nerve and I was very pleased with the treatment I got!

I would go to a recommended Chiropractor vs an Ortho guy in most cases...unless you must have surgery.

Like any other medical professionals, some chiropractors can be unscrupulous. While it's very true that regular treatments/adjustments are beneficial & help prevent problems as well as correcting them, I'd be suspicious of anyone who told me I needed to come in every day for any period of time, or tried to get me to commit to some regular schedule. My doc tends to recommend that I come in about every 6 weeks or so because of the type of stress I normally put on my back & joints; but he doesn't push it. And my experience tells me that he's right, although I ALWAYS put it off until I'm really in pain (mostly for financial reasons, but also because I'm a born procrastinator). Mine always says, "You should probably come back in about 6 weeks or so; but call me if you have any problems before then."

Recommendations from people who have a regular chiropractor can be helpful.

A good chriopracter can do wonders.
However, I prefer a deep tissue massage. Especially on shoulders. Once again, you have to hunt for a good one.
