    you may be too young chip. but back in the day they used to serve a cooked/peeled tomato in a small white paper cup, that was about half full of tomato juice, at school lunch rooms across the nation. like grid said, those things had a reputation in and of themselves and only the stout hearted would dare to eat them and those that did got as many as they wanted. they would sometimes end up being thrown at other people, piled on your tray when you went for a forgotten fork or carton of milk, or get smashed on the lunchroom floor. to this day just the thought of them makes me cringe.
