Checkers To Move into new Uptown Arena By 2007-08 Season?

Should the Checkers Move to the Uptown Arena Eventyually?

    The Checkers Lease at CRICKET ARENA runs out in 2007; The team has had some preliminary talks with Bob Johnson (New NBA Charlotte owner who will run the new Uptown Arena) about moving the ECHL team to the Uptown arena after their current lease runs out. I think it would be a good move by the team to relocate uptown; By then the SOuth Light-Rail line would be up & running (fans would be able to park their cars in the southern burbs' and take the LRT to the arena's front door). CRICKET ARENA is cool don't get me wrong, but in the long run I think playing Uptown would help the team in the long run (and eventually if they ever step up to the AHL).



    Checkers to play at new UPtown Arena Someday :confused: ? ?

    damn that seems like such a long time....it would be cool cause you could go to bars before and after the game without drivin nowhere

    They will more than likely move

    The checkers are almost certain to move into the new arena as will everything else around here. That place will rock!

    If I read correctly, the Checkers lease allow either side (them or the City of Charlotte) to break the contract in the last 2 years if they want to, no questions asked. To me, Scheer & Sabates (new Checkers owners) realized that with the new arena opening up, they would want to be able to move in there the first year it opens (2005). As long as the lease is reasonable, I expect them to be playing there in 2005 . . .
