I am familiar with the A10 football conference. I was just under the impression that if we did start a football team, it would be at the highest level which the A10 isn’t. If we’re just shooting for a 1AA team, Memorial Stadium and the SoCon would be fine.

Better yet, if we really wanted to keep startup costs down, why not start in the Pioneer League as a non-scholarship team like Davidson?

Because you have to compete at an equal level, we are D-I in all sports and must at a minimum begin at DI-A or DI-AA. There is no starting at Division III or Division II and moving up allowed by the NCAA.

You can send it and earmark it football if you desire. They will hold the money for that. Beginning today, the Alumni push is for the Alumni House... Built by Alumni, if you're going to contribute, go to the Prospectors team to do so please. :D

WHy would we shoot for Div. 1? Why set records for futility just to say we're not 1-AA? There's not any benefit to that, other than the rare stadium draw of a SEC team that would whip a start-up team 140-0 before the game got called. That's not good exposure.

That's why I said we can start at D1-AA in the Pioneer League like Davidson currently is. Davidson does not provide schloarships to its football players.

Georgetown is another example of a school that plays AA football but does not give scholarships for it. I’m sure there are many others.

I don’t think we should shoot for anything at this point; I rather better fund out basketball team than start a football team that may never run in the black.

If we are set on starting a football team, I’m fine with it being 1AA. I’m referencing Woodward’s comments:

bottom line, if Western and App can support football, surely we can.
What you didn't see in any quote was this "we have safe jobs and going for football requires risk and we are afraid of that"

Is App not div 2 in football and d1 in basketball?
