At the very least, they are required to play Division I-AA by the NCAA. They can not play D-II or D-III football. That is 65 scholarships (who knows if they can be competitive) plus an equal number for Title IX and average 15000 fans for home games. As stated earlier, the established programs are not fully scholarshipped. How can you think Charlotte will add a minimum of 130 grants PLUS the expenses needed for coaches, equipment, facilities, support staff, etc. Do you have a big checkbook or did you win the lottery?

    Okay, I give up!

Bring back the hyphen, UNC-C will never have football. Nobody will support it. I can't pay for it myself. Thank goodness we have HighPoint49er to bring us all down to earth. :banginghe

I've got no problem with the hyphen. The UNC general administration lists the home school as UNC-Chapel Hill so, if it's good enough for them.... :imagestor

Why is UNC-C third or fourth fiddle?

Chapel Hill and N.C. State both get buildings in the new N.C. Research Campus in Kannapolis and officials are negoiciating with Duke to participate. Why is UNC-C only in a "support" role for the new project?

UNC Charlotte announces support of Kannapolis “Biopolis”, UNC Charlotte Office of Public Relations.

A simple answer, UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State are considered research universities, UNC Charlotte is not (nor is ECU).

Chancellor Woodward lobbied hard for "research" status with the legislature, who only released $5 million this year and $10 million next year toward establishing a doctoral program which had been held up for three years by the state.

The UNCC campus is 20 miles away from this project. Why would they build us a building? We are already there.
