How many people have their Certified Financial Planner certification? What kind of doors does it open up and is it worth what seems to be a pretty intense exam?

I bet nobody here has one, lol.

My accountant has his and has had it now for prolly over 5 years. He's considering dropping the 'CPA' from his title b/c he makes so much more money af a CFP that he doesn't want new accounting business.

The only people that I know who are CFP are self employed, so I would have no idea what kind of 'doors' open up, but I would imagine if I knew nothing of financial planning, I wanted help, I would lean toward someone with a title.

I think if I ever got out of the businesses I'm in, or wanted to do something else, I'd enjoy being a CFP. I'd imagine thousands of cold calls would be required to get started, but that's kinda always the name of the game.

    FWIW, I don't use one.

If you take the exam, please keep us informed.

Right now I work for a smaller financial institution and was thinking that if I got that certification it would open up doors in places like Wachovia or BOA further in my career.

It's like any other degree. It may open doors but its what you do after the door is opened that'll get you places.
