    Hmm. It must vary from parish to parish then. The last mass I went to was actually part of a wedding. The bride and groom knelt down in front of a statue of Mary, then someone else (I think it might have been Peter, but could be the saint of that church), then Jesus on the cross.

    Perhaps the bride and groom were superstitious. By bowing and kneeling to anything and everything, they would cover all their bases :D

    They were Hispanic. Dunno if that makes much, if any, difference. :huh:

    yeah it does, especially if they were mexican, there is a lot of cultural baggage that has been used by the missionaries to convert the savages and ended up as part local religious custom.
    These customs become deeply entrenched as a source of nationalism. I know the irish not allowing the polish to celebrate dozynki within the church, led to the creation of the polish national catholic church in this country.
