One more standing "O" for the man in black. His music will live on.

It is wild how he was able to cross all the lines. I grew up listening to him with my dad. When I got older hair metal was big and that was my "teenage" music. When grunge and alternative came out I rejected it. I have never listened to NIN. Cash was beyond all of that. He was above all a great musician who loved and created great music. Kid Rock was on VH1 singing Cash's praises. It is ironic how people outside of country music like Rock and Reznor recognize Cash's greatness more than the young country musicians do.

That's because Nashville churns out teeny-bopper crap, and Cash remains true to his folk/rockbilly roots that defined his sound. People recognize true art in Cash, a hard, unflinching, truthful look at the world, and that he's putting out elevator music with fiddles.

Cash is as rock and roll as you can get. As punk as you can get. He says what he wants, does what he wants, and if you don't like it......

Cash transcended musical genres...it doesn't really matter if you call it rock or country. He did what he wanted without bowing to what was expected or popular and that truly defines an artist.
