I like that it's two years, that's a win/win for both Carr and the Panthers. Jake is the starter this year, if Carr somehow gets in and plays well it can be open competition next summer.

Carr then has the season to resign here or sign elseware for big money.

If they don't believe in Basanez it's a great time to use a pick on a guy. No pressure at all on the #3 this year whoever it is, just learn Davidson's offense.

no need to waste a pick, which ofcoarse means we'll probably take two!

It's a good year for it. There are a number of backup/developmental guys I like.

Of course, if we did that, there'd be someone to say that we wanted that player to be the top backup and that if Delhomme didn't play perfectly he'd be cut in camp.

Without a doubt people will say stuff like that but that wouldn't begin to be a real possibility until next year, earliest.

Hurney said they love the QB corps now which of course could be true (I like it just fine), or he's blowing smoke to hide true intentions. This signing doesn't preclude taking someone higher than people anticipate if things fall right.

Technically true, but not practically. Carr was badly tutored in Chris Palmer's system, then force-fed Kubiak's WCO. Jake's got several years' experience in a balanced, play-action offense that I think will be largely similar to the new Carolina offense Jeff Davidson is building. The biggest thing both QBs will have to learn is that there is more than one or two targets in the pattern. Neither has had much in the way of instruction to find second, third, and even fourth reads.

Just to burn speculation, I'll throw out there that Delhomme was Henning's boy, not Davidson's, if Davidson decides that Carr is better what is Defensive minded Fox going to do?

What he wants. Fox is not big on change just for change's sake.

They apparently will work on that next year. Both have 2 more years. I agree they're probably done in FA except for filling out the bottom of the roster after the draft. And you're right, usually extensions have a lower cap value in the year they're signed than the existing contract, so it could still happen earlier.
