    correct.
    correct, and correct.

By June, the next year's salary cap proration automatically starts counting to that year. In your example, two years have passed, you're into year 3. Any cut after June 1st, or a cut or two that you can designate before then? The first two years have passed ($10 mil). Year 3 is there, current. it's counted. You could say it's "due", but it's there no matter what you do. Year 4, in the June cut, counts against year 4, and year 5 would then, as well.

So cutting your player in February would mean the cap hit is $5 million (the year 3 proration) plus the accelerated proration ($10 million) minus the year 3 salary. That's your net cap number.

However, since year 3 signing proration is there anyway, the net savings is whatever you'd save in salary year 3 minus the proration. If player made 25 mil in bonus, that's $25 mil in salary. Let's make it even at $5 million/year -- meaning you accelerate $10 million, save $5 million. Net savings is a negative $5 million, you cost yourself that amount against the cap.

And then a June cut gives you a cap number of $5 million (the current signing bonus proration you can't do anything about), savings of $5 million in salary since no proration happens that year instead of $5 million charged net. And then next year you swallow $10 million in proration instead of five.

You also save the year 4 salary in there, but that's obviously assumed anyway. Unless you're writing guaranteed salaries for Jake Delhomme.

So, you tell me, Paul. Do those two scenerios look the same?
