    you suggested that maybe killing sofie wasn't the goal, so i just wondered why she would kill herself when sofie was there.

    Sofie never strayed far away from her. She knew if Sofie was near and saw the fire she would put it out. She held her arm so as to keep Sofie from putting out the fire.

    or

    Maybe Sofie started the fire. Maybe Mom never had any powers. Sofie knew she had to get rid of her mother. she didn't know why but she knew.

    Remember, they are all part of the great plan.
