They can do that, one just has to sing in the background.

speaking of Iris, what is the deal with Justin's goon planting a kiss on her and backing her ass against the wall? Shit is getting weird.

Is there gonna be a new season? Seems like everything is getting settled.

i dunno. "the final battle is about to begin". there's the whole nuke angle that hasn't taken shape yet. perhaps politics will go start to take a more prominent role.

it's nice to think that the story arc has been settled upon, but the cynic in me says that cliff hanger season finales (where a few people look like they might not return) are less about moving a storyline along and more about renegotiating contracts. similarly, i think carnivale is popular enough that there's no way they ain't coming back for another season even if they have to make filler episodes to stretch out the story.

iris' character has suddenly changed her tune, it seems to me. i don't like when writers don't pay attention to character history. they let her motives be ambiguous and then have her take on a new character path, but it doesn't really make sense with what she's done in the past. not that she's done things counter to her seemingly new role as a check against justin, but more in what she hasn't done. when a person's motives are revealed, their actions from when their motives were secret still need to make sense. i don't get that from iris... unless she's acting again (perhaps to enrage justin to some end?)

I agree, if she is actually on the side of good, how can she justify the orphanage fire? Do you think she is actually the anti-christ and is using Justin for the dirty work?

she talks of exposing him, but has had ample opportunity to do so. she's also been backed into a corner with the whole fire thing and didn't come out swinging, instead appearing to take one for the team (tho justin fixed things here). you'd think from her perspective, she would have said "i got a get out of jail free card, i better use it now" instead of just giving in.

hmm... more evil than justin? i dunno. honestly, i suspect her change of character is related to opening plot lines to explore and not really a "grand scheme" kind of thing. i think it's giving them too much credit to suggest that the whole story arc is already written out and that each character and their relationships to each other are written in stone. i wouldn't be surprised if sofie wasn't always justin's daughter, for example. i wouldn't be surprised to find she was originally ben's sister (thus the complete lack of love interest between them till the incest angle was worn away). them hooking up seemed REALLY forced to me so you know the sex was important -- which means, baby.

i do think it's important, tho, that the end of season one had sofie's mother trying to kill her. so in that way, sofie's been important to the big picture for some time. maybe iris is going to get sofie to kill justin and become new usher? but is that how it works? i would think sofie would have to kill ben given the intertwined "kill the other guy's father" system they have in place.

oh well. i guess part of my point is that it's not really predictable in a certain sense because it's not a certainty even in the creators' minds. they probably have some key elements worked out, but given the success of certain story ideas, those things could change.

Maybe she wasn't trying to kill Sofie. Maybe she just held her long enough to keep Sofie from trying to save her. Remember, Sofie wouldn't be with Justin now if she was still attending to her mother. All part of the big plan.

maybe, but then, why wait till sofie's in the trailer? nah, i think she was trying to kill her. i think she saw something of her character when she did what she did to jonesy and ... uh... that dancer girl.
