I just noticed you live in Hamptonville... I own that town you know... along with the fine chain of hotels that also bear my name. Please remit your rent payment as soon as possible ;)

Oh, that explains the statue of you on Main Street. I figured it was just because you were smokin' hot.

I bought that lens that's in that package (75-300) and I was very unhappy with it. It was really soft at the long end and had terrible fringing. It's probably worth your while to spend a little more ($500 vs. $200) and pick up the 70-300 IS. It's a much higher quality lens and adds the benefit of image stabalization.

Amazon has the XTi body only for $530 and the Body & kit lens for $600. If I were you I'd get the kit lens (or another in that Focal Length range) first and worry about a telephoto later. You may not need it as much as you think you do.

    What does this mean?\

Edit: Secondly, if there is ANY way I can keep from doing Amazon, I will. They've been nothing but a pain in my ass every single time I've ever ordered anything.

She's beautiful. Yeah, the thing with kids (and what will help you the most by going to SLR) is there's virtually no shutter lag.

Check out this picture (taken with that lens - I took it back the day after taking these shots). See wherrever there's a bright spot it has a purple tinge to it? That's fringing. The softness is that the edges kind of blur into each other, it's just not "sharp". Almost like being out of focus, but there's no part of the image that's IN focus.

As far as amazon goes, I've never had any trouble ordering camera parts from them, but if you have, I understand you not wanting to go back. But check out other websites (newegg's good too). Anywhere with a B&M store (best Buy, Circuit City, Wolf Camera) will be WAY high.

Mark, thanks so much. All that makes sense to me and I see exactly what you mean.

And Julia, I would probably be very interested in looking at your lenses once I get my camera.

also check out lensrentals.com . They're a rental house, not a store, but they have a great selection of lenses and really good descriptions of them in pretty plain language. They only have mid to high level lenses though, so keep in mind that there's more out there.
