Can psychics really see the past/future?

I’m sure everyone has seen the signs for “$5 Psychic Readings” in their town or while traveling elsewhere. What I wanted to discuss here were your thoughts on using psychics for more than just personal entertainment, more specifically in police and detective work.

There’s been documented cases in the past where police haven’t been able to solve a crime, at which point they turn to a psychic for help.
What I find the most interesting is when the psychics they hire actually solve the case.

What are your thoughts on this? What about using psychics to help solve some of the current investigations (such as the Peterson or Hacking
    trials?)

I’m not an expert myself on the topic, but I’ve been learning a bit more from a new show on Court TV called Psychic Detectives. It’s on Wednesday’s at 9:30pm in case you want to watch it too.

It's interesting but iffy. For every individual with a genuine gift of insight or sensitivity to frequencies outside our normal range of perception, there are 15-25 b.s. artists... from your bargain basement charlitains to media darlings tailor-made for the book tour/talk show circuit. The info-tabloid culture and legions of hoaxters make the "genuine article" damn near impossible to find.

I've heard of cases like the ones you mention but know little of specific ones. If someone has detailed info on cases cracked through psychic or mystical means, I'm all ears.

I don't know about the exact breakdown, but I tend to think the vast majority of those people are frauds. I also think a certain percentage are making use of supernatural influence in some form. But I don't have anything scientific to back that belief up.

Mark Packer, "packman" once worked with a Psychic who was assigned to the OJ Simpson case. He said the psychic knew where the knife was and where other things were buried, etc. but for some reason they couldn't go dig it up because it was private property and the police wouldn't issue a warrant or something. He has never really elaborated on it much in the last few years.

I know my wife watches Sylvia Brown on Montel every once in a while and swears she's legit ...

Think about it....if you could see into the future, you could be rich and never have to tell people you physic. Now the stuff where people help police with cases I don't know.
I do think there are spirits in the world, good and bad, so personally I wouldn't mess with any of that kind of stuff.
