I know there are other post on this subject but I can not find them at this time. Sorry for a double post on the same topic.

Can anyone recommend a good outdoor antenna that does not have to be mounted to the roof and is not big and bulky? Something that can pick up areas in the red or at least up to 30 to 40 miles away(maybe a little less but not much less)? I live in a second story apartment with one apartment above me smack dab in the middle of a city. There are issues of trees and other tall buildings. I know it needs to be a multidirectional one with an amplified receptor but that is about it. The TV I have is an Ilo with an sdtv tuner built in. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help with this.

Ask your landlord if you can put a trailer on the roof.

Why so I can pay for crap I do not watch? Like 50 or more sports channels and another 20 to 30 weather channels. Not to mention all the music channels that I will never listen to. No thanks. I just want my CW! I can get that for free with the right antenna.

Not sure what Cable company owns your area, but Time Warner has a package for like $15 that gives you the channels plus a few extra that you'd normally have through Antenna.

I have tried multiple indoor amplified TV antennas used in conjunction with antennaweb.org to point it in the direction of the station antenna. Unless you live within 15-20 miles within their antenna, you're going to get spotty reception. Not to speak, line of sight.

You're in a worse off position being sandwiched between a couple of other units. You will need an outdoor antenna to get what you want.

Thanks. Is there one that I can use outdoors that does not look like the old big and bulky ones? They seem to be the only ones I can find that will work.

WRAL-TV, Raleigh, was giving away antennas for free a while back that pick up HD. I got one and gave it away. The people I gave it to had it propped up beside their house and it worked fine. Maybe WRAL still has some.
