    Yep.

    Here's my thought / hope:

All the negative is out there, with a big, eye-catching spotlight on it. But the dude won, and won, and won, and won. He didn't flinch under pressure on and off the field. His teammates, by all accounts, loved him and followed him. He's an incredible talent. He doesn't take drugs. Despite what people write, all evidence points to him being a hard worker. All evidence points to him loving the game and wanting to PLAY.

I'm really hoping that al the bad stuff is bad publicity, combo of some dumb decisions and backlash from Russell and Tebow and Young, and that the reality will be wins for the panthers.

I'm wearing rose colored glasses, because right now it's more fun.

Well, that's good, because it's the proper frame of mind to exhibit when evaluating this. I'm not wild about the pick, and to hear a respected analyst (Greg Cossell--NFL Films) say that none of these QB's should be taken in the top-20 is concerning.

This is, quite frankly, a NEEDS draft--more so than any year I can recall, and particularly if you're fumbling around with no viable QB on the roster. No telling when FA opens up, and by that point, teams like Carolina, Arizona, Tennessee would like to have "something" in place, even if it is a rookie that might ordinarily go in the 2nd.

If Newton wasn't such a freak of an athlete with a national title under his belt, I would be 100% against it. But, he's proven some things--good things--so, whatever. Tee it up and see what happens.

Sorry, I'm not as "cerebral" as some that keep preaching that "you better take Dareus...it's safe, and it fills a need." I'm just a slapdick fan who wants to see a QB take this offense by the balls and lead it. Don't see why he couldn't, in time, be that QB.

Take a stab as to which category your Carolina Panthers fall under here.

    THIS.

Christ on a pony, is it impossible for some here to just accept the fact that, without players available for trade and FA, there is simple no way any team is trading up for that pick. None.

They're "stuck" with it, which will be funny perspective about 24 months from now if Newton becomes a good-to-great QB. Then again, he might suck.

Funny. One player, Luck, suddenly turns the rest of these QB's into "reaches". Luck would have accounted for one pick, but there's still 8-12 teams will QB issues, if not more.

Well, as I've said, if Hurney fucks this up at least we'll likely be rid of him in my lifetime. So fuck it, whatever, I have no control over it anyway.

I'm less inclined to opine about how Newton will do, and more inclined to deal with what is actually going to happen in 3 days. I think they'll take him, and they'll have to work like hell to make him NFL-ready.

I just don't buy the smoke-screen concept this year. Smoke-screening, for what? What's the leverage? Nobody else wants the fucking pick.

I am not too sure about that I think Marty has pics of JR and a sheep or something.

The argument that "well, they invested a 2nd in Clausen, so they surely can't invest a 1st in another QB" is weak. And I don't even come from a place of hate here, re: Clausen. That is flawed logic, in that if Luck was in this draft, it would be a done fucking deal. Now, if you want to qualify it by saying "you can't pick a QB #1 when you picked one in the 2nd last year UNLESS YOU KNOW HE CAN BE A FRANCHISE QB", that's better.

Nobody knows, not even Hurney, what Newton will become. But I still think he'll take him.
