No, I'm pretty sure I was laughing when Roy turned them down the first time.

The previous coach brought in solid players. I don't question that, but he was in danger of losing those players to transfer, because he was a good recruiter, but not as good a coach.

Fair enough, but we did get him eventually. Do you honestly think you're going to get a great coach in the next decade?

i think he's chicken shit. you get a chance to upgrade from CUSA to the ACC and turn it down? nestled between UNC and Duke, snagging players from their recruiting sofas with the lure of a starting position rather than riding the bench in Durham or roll playing in Blue Heaven? HUGE chip on their shoulders being the over-looked wall flower at the dance, it woulda been perfect. Raleigh would be red hot with anticipation and promise. sure he may have struggled at first but he coulda got the job done in a couple years and added another serious contender on Tobacco Rd. but his team at Memphis is really good and he'll cakewalk through the season next year safe and sound. too bad john, in a few years you'll get bored with slapping CUSA around for the umpteenth time, but then again, maybe not. im sure there are a few great coaches just itching to jump on the beast if only they would get the call. its a perfect opportunity for somebody..........but who?

I imagine he was probably just waiting for a better job to open up. N.C. State is not exactly a prime position anymore (if it ever was).
