Texans | R. Bush not a lock to be No. 1 draft pick?
    Mon, 17 Apr 2006 17:38:45 -0700

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports there is now legitimate reason, for the first time, to think that USC RB Reggie Bush is not going to be wind up with the Houston Texans, the team that currently holds the No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick. This does not come from one source or from one team. This comes from multiple sources, from across the league, without any agenda to push. As of Monday, April 17, the Texans had not had any contract discussions with Bush and his representatives. When Bush was in Houston, a certain segment of the organization never introduced itself to the running back. The Texans know they have a dependable running back and kick return man, the two spots Bush fills. A person in the Bush camp said Monday, "Do I have a feeling that Reggie is going to Houston? No, I have a feeling that he's not."

I have always believed they should trade down and stockpile picks. Sure it wouldn't be popular, but winning some fucking games would go a long way to make people forget Reggie Bush. Adding Reggie Bush isn't going to win games on it's own. They need a line and maybe a QB, but I'd get the line first and see what they really have in Carr.
They could stand to improve on the D-line and really need a stud pass rusher and maybe an upgrade at least one of the safety spots.

saw a blurb on KFFL that was talking about Bush maybe pricing himself out of the Texans plans. Wonder what Shannahan is thinking at this moment?

Probably drafting another Pro-Bowl RB in the 5th round?

The Texans would be better served with Ferguson or Hawk or Williams. They could move down a few spots and still get one of those guys. I know Denver has two first round picks but I think it would take more than than those two picks for the number one over all.

they might be better served there. They might not. On paper, they don't need Bush, they need other things. And paper doesn't win games. Getting defenders to run around scared, that can.

Denver doesn't have the firepower to get to #1 with their two picks and, say, Ashley Lelie. However, Shanahan does have the leverage of knowing that he's got players Kubiak would love to have.

...I just remembered how bad last year's draft sucked, particularly in the top half of the first.

    errr, edit:

Last year's draft was very dull. Or at least that's how I remembered it. this year, you have three QB prospects that could go high, and a couple of can't miss offensive tackles, IMO. Plus Bush.

Considering Gallery and Gross havent dominated as their draft status would suggest and Winston Justice had a superior workout to Brick there is no way id let Bush past me, he;s far superior an athlete. The Texans should have taken care of the Oline already in FA. No way id pass on that kinda talent. Id live with a sucky oline another year and rebuild later if i had to.

one player won't make a line, no. A left tackle's hard to pass up, but if they were able to snag a guy like Jon Scott in 2, they'd be as well off. And I don't believe Scott is going to be a first rounder.
