Goodson and Fiammetta looked good, so our 4th of 2009 is gaining on the 7th of 08.

Todd Carter got hurt, so we will upgrade. Coverage units looked good, without our various slow WRs. Hudson is a fucking terror, I think he's actually who hurt Martin.

Anderson had nine tackles as the third best LB, and while that might make less credence given we gave up the ball so much (=more carries), he still didn't look foolish that much. He let some outside runs get by him but I was expecting we'd have moved Beason and Connor over a slot each by now so, go 50.

Defense is at least aware and around the ball. I can't explain the lack of pressure late, but it seemed like we were getting hits on Manning the first half at least.

Offense could've been good, had we connected with our own guys in the endzone half of those INTs we could've won.

Hell yes. Can't even have a smoke with your beer now, assholes. Between that and shitty playing, they'll have trouble filling the stadium, which will mean more blackouts this year I bet.

I highly doubt there will be blackouts. I can't even remember any blackouts in team history. Panthers will make sure those tickets are sold/given away. We can't go this Sunday but no matter what I love being at the staduim and the entire atmosphere. As a reformed smoker I think there should be some sort of smoking section but right at the top of those ramps was a bad way to welcome people to the 500 level. Those sections were always overflowing.

As if I am a scout (yay!), I took some time at lunch yesterday and watched the game again online, via-NFL.com.

Bizarre game, in general. Manning made some great reads and plays. The reviewed catch/no-catch on the sidelines was a little questionable, and surely didn’t help a ton.

Sucks, because I was singing Marshall’s praises all camp, and he probably had his worst game as a pro. He didn’t just look outmatched, he looked lost. Almost as if it was his first game.

Yea, the 34/28 void in the second half was troubling. Obviously, we had the passing game functioning well at the end of Q2, and the touchdown should have given that team some momentum and confidence. The opening drive for NY in Q3 hurt, and the field position battle started to swing their way, despite the presence of the worst punter in NFL History, Matt Dodge, for NY.

I was very pleased with how we attacked defensively, particularly vs. the run. We ended up yielding over 100 as a team, but a couple long runs near the end padded that. Overall, I think Meeks did a good job of taking their running game away, and forcing Eli to make nearly impossible throws, some of which he did. He was also picked off 3 times, and missed a ton of open targets.

Davidson’s playcalling was as bad as it’s been. We came out early with a 3:1 run to pass ratio, and had limited success. Then, we just start passing, to the point where Goodson is the only back in the game for the final 15-20 minutes of the game. I believe JD got away from the run way too early in Q3, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that, if you keep pounding it, one of the three backs will break a 60-yard run. We’ve seen it for the past 2 years.

Our special teams is much improved. We did what I hoped we would do: 33 at KR, 41 at PR, at it worked just fine. Coverage units, we can get better, because NY is far from the best unit on returns we will see this year.

This was not another Philly game from 09. Moore’s INT’s were horrific, but I don’t think Smith, the other keystone cops, and Moore are synched up at this point. As old and slow as he was getting, it’s where you start to miss Moose, which is why they probably should have just done the wise thing in the off season and sign a veteran opposite 89. Knowing where you need to go and how to get open is pretty fucking important, and it doesn’t look like 11, 80 or any of them are quite set there.

Tampa looked active, but my god, Cleveland was kicking the dog shit out of them and—of course—JakeFuck heaves a sidearm pick to Barber that sets up a TD, and Hillis fumbled twice, once inside Tampa’s 15.

In other words, I think we will kick the living fuckshit out of them.

yeah, the back usage was odd. We didn't get much 28, which may or may not have been an easing in/not 100% thing, but it's not as if we can't pass with Deangelo in. Goodson did well in there, so I'm not totally against his use, just that the same thing has always been true with him - anything he can do, the other two can do as well or better.
Which goes back to what some have said on his formations - too telling on what the play would be. Which is a departure from Henning, who'd throw a ton of formations at you but you still knew what it'd be regardless.

But, that and going away from the run at, what, 9 points down? We have to still worry first about moving the ball. He does have the habit of panic in these situations, or maybe the orders he's given are explicit but basic.

I dunno. The game he called wasn't great, but the plays were there. Even in the endzone, you'd see Jarrett open (which doesn't exactly happen a lot) to the left and Moore's running for his life to the right.

Not that we got open a lot, which is a problem with having a bunch of slow guys out there doing intermediate routes. And yeah, I miss Moose. That guy, if he wasn't open, you could still get it to him if you needed. I figured we'd go get a guy - not a great guy, but still a guy with experience - after the draft. We'd base what we'd get based on what we drafted - figured posession vet and speedy youth - and then we drafted both those guys, twice really.

I was actually afraid Willaims was hurt. He disappeared from the game in the second half.

bright spots, the D in the first half held them to -2 yrds rushing at the half. Had some INT's , too bad they couldn't get much out of them. They also had the Giants at 3rd and 15,16,17 several times. too bad they converted a few but at least the Giants were on their heels.

If Bernadeau isn't starting, it would have to be because of a signing. Robinson is the only other guy in the equation and he's on IR. Everyone else on the roster is teh suck.

I would expect them to stick with Bernadeau until Otah comes back, then move Schwartz to RG.
