This would be a huge get for da Heels! :D

Quotes from Brian Johnson and his coach...

"Probably 30 schools have offered me scholarships," Johnson said. "North Carolina, Duke, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, Rutgers, Georgetown and Notre Dame have all offered. I'm shocked by the attention.

"I grew up a Carolina fan, and I still love them. It doesn't matter that they went 8-20. I love Carolina no matter what."

Does that mean Johnson is ready to commit?

"No, I'm going to wait and look at everything," he said. "Carolina is still at the top, and the other schools will have to beat the Tar Heels out. Duke is coming up, though. Being a Carolina fan, you hate Duke. But they've showed me another side of the school, one I didn't know about as a Tar Heel fan.

"We'll have to wait and see. I'm not going to do anything right away. I'm just going to keep working on my game and try to keep learning."

    More from his coach...
"He did a tremendous job of developing his post moves," O'Connell coach Joe Wootten said. "Brian is a gifted player, and he works hard to get better. He tells me, 'Coach, people tell me I'm so good, but I look in the mirror and see somebody that needs a lot of improvement.'

"I told him that is what will separate him from most of the other players. He is always working. He's never satisfied. He doesn't think he's there and that there isn't anything else he needs to do.

"Another thing about Brian," Wootten said, "is that he is very unselfish. As we went farther in the season, more teams double- and triple-teamed him, and he was more than willing to kick the ball out to his teammates.

"It's a product of the way he was raised. His mother has taught him how to treat other people. She never allowed him just say yes and no to adults when he was small. It was always 'yes, sir" and "no, ma'am," and it's still that way. He is all class.

"Brian is a very good student and had a 3.1 grade-point average last year (2.9 overall). He is an intelligent young man and one who applies himself. Again, this comes from the home."

Hmmmm....maybe it will be Ginyard swaying Johnson to Duke instead of the other way around.

Could be. Do you know how many scholys the Dukies have open?

Carolina currently has 12 schol players after Curry and Marvin Williams sign. (assuming no one goes pro early) Hence they have only 1 more to sign right now. Most people seem to think UNC has a lot of scholys open but not really after Curry and Williams sign.

I think UNC is waiting on Johnson and will go after Dickey or Tangara if he goes elsewhere. If Howard sounds serious enough to trust maybe the Heels are waiting for his decision too. I personally wouldn't sweat Howard. Go get a good top 50 big man and move on. Howard's going pro cause he is probably top 5 in the lottery.

    Hmmmm

Counting Nelson and McClure (with Duhon and Horvath leaving)

    we will have

    D. Ewing
    S. Dockery
    S. Williams
    M. Thompson
    L. Melchionni
    S. Randolph
    J. Reddick
    L. Deng
    D. Nelson
    D. McClure

only Ewing officially leaves the year after that.

So it looks like we have 4 scholies to play with over the next two years.

Those guys are already pretty damn strong. K needs to get Livingston to leave Ill. He'd be the next great one from the point position. Dockery is good but not great. Also, Nelson's a two I believe. Anyway - K will get his. No doubt there.
