Sources: Bobcats to waive Brevin Knight
    RICK BONNELL
    Staff Writer

The Charlotte Bobcats will waive veteran point guard Brevin Knight today in a move that will save the team about $2.5 million next season.

A source familiar with the situation told the Observer the Bobcats are exercising a buy-out clause in Knight's contract. The team will pay Knight about $1.5 million to avoid a salary in excess of $4 million that Knight would have received for the 2007-08 season.

It's unclear how the Bobcats will replace Knight as the backup to starting point guard Raymond Felton. The Bobcats did not get a point guard in Thursday's NBA draft.

this should help Felton some. Knight would play 10 games and then be hurt for 10 games and Ray was going back and forth between pg and sg. Ray is too small to be a shooting guard. on the other hand is McInnis the backup now or will they get someone else?

Too bad they could not get anything in return for Knight. He is a decent player IMHO.

agree that could have got something. they always said they would give Brevin the right to nix a trade if it was some place he didnt want to go. Guess this way they dont have to worry about that. wonder if they are clearing a little more cap space for Wallace or some other FA.

I wish I knew how much space they now have under the salary capy after the Richardson trade, the Knight cut and the $10 million trade exception.

After the Richardson trade and BK buyout, we are still about 23-25 million under the cap. Of course that's before signing Wallace (who will likely cost somewhere between 10-12 million/yr) and Carroll, our draft picks, and any FA's (such as a Center and back up PG). Not to mention the probability of trying to sign Okafor to a long term deal.

So when all is said and done, we should be able to get all those pieces, but it will put us against the cap.
