WTF. Dan Marino was the best QB in history to me. Put him on any of those Niner teams and he wins a Super Bowl. Farve is good, but Marino was awesome. Give me Marino over any QB in history and I'm happy.

Favre looked good last night having been restricted some with the brace IMO. He wasn't as good as his norm but he made some plays.

Barry Sanders was the man IMO. I can't remember the year but he was stopped behind the line of scrimmage more than anyone in the league but still led in rushing.... also led in 20+ gains for that year. He singlehandedly could change the game. He was that good behind a shitty line. Emmitt had that great line to carry his ass to the record.

    This thread gets me thinking...

Why not give your top pick (based on pure talent of the player in their prime) at the following positions (all-time) for arguements sake:

    QB - Dan Marino
    RB - Gale Sayers
WR - Jerry Rice (although I think Randy Moss is even more purely talented than Rice - no freak'n way I put him above him)
    OL - Anthony Munoz

    DT - Bob Lilly
    DE - Joe Greene
    LB - Lawerence Taylor
    S - Ronnie Lott
    CB - Deion Sanders

This is probably best if we start a new thread, but we'll have to wait for Mags to do that.

I'll go with the popular guys

    Montana
    Payton
    Rice
Munoz (although he may be surpassed before it's all said and done with by some of the studs running around out there today)
    forgot TE Ditka

    Donovan
    Reggie
    OLB- Taylot
    ILB - Butkus
    Lott
Sander (hate to admit it. I hate the bastard)

  5. Shocker, thanks for including Mean Joe, but he was a DT with the Steelers. Played next to Ernie Holmes & Steve Furness. The "real" Steel Curtain...

    I'd take:

    Bradshaw
    Payton
    Rice
Larry Brown (Steeler tackle, converted from TE)

    Hampton
    Greene
    Lambert
    Lott

  6. Piper

    Piper Guest

    QB - Joe Montana
    RB - Walter Payton
    WR - Jerry Rice
    OL - Jackie Slater

    DT - Joe Greene
    DE - Reggie White
    OLB - Lawerence Taylor
    ILB - Singletary
    S - Lott
    CB - Darrell Green

Sanders does not quite make it to the top because he was a long ball threat, not a guy that can get you over on 4th and goal.

  8. HeadCase

    HeadCase Guest

    QB - Roger Staubach
    RB - Earl Campbell
    WR - Lance Alworth
    OL - Mike Webster

    DT - Bob Lilly
    DE - Elvin Bethea
    LB - Lawerence Taylor
S - Mike Tatum ?? (safety that played for Oakland)
    CB - Deion Sanders

I've never been impressed with the rating. Good example here, he played well and his team won, partly because of the things he made happen on the football field some of which do not remotely factor into his QB rating. I'll take a QB with an 83 rating and a winning record anyday....

Give me Bradshaw... he was a natural leader.
