The biggest thing I remember about Buck Showalters days as the d'back manager is that he would NEVER take the starting pitcher out when he got into trouble. Every freakin time he'd leave him in for at least an inning too long and we'd lose because of it.

And then came Brenly...problem solved. Until this year with Elmer Dessens. Every time he pitches he kicks ass the first 4 innings, then gets rocked in the 5th or the 6th and we lose. So my question is (seeing the pattern and all) why not take the bastard out in the 5th or 6th when he starts getting into trouble?

Or better yet, lets just send Elmer back to Cincy where he belongs.

He is prolly giving the bullpen some rest or either seeing if Dessens can ever make it through that wall. If not, he will know he will need to shift him to long relief in the playoffs.

Hell, Randy and Schills are back, I say shift him to long relief now! Who's got Brenly's phone number?

hey RSgal, i watched the game last night (MLB Extra Innings is a beautiful thing) and i really did not see a reason to yank Dessens. He had really good stuff, and the two run single he gave up to Aurillia was a bloop that broke his bat. he really was one pitch away from getting out of that inning. he ran into a hot club (6 straight wins) who is finding different ways to win each night. i just hope they can keep it going!

Schilling against Moss tonight. can moss keep his momentum going after a decent outing last week? will schilling get back on track? guess i will need to get a nap before the 10:15 est first pitch tonight.

Extra Innings kicks ass!! I fell asleep around the 4th inning I think, d'backs were up 4-1. Last night may not have been a typical Dessens outing, I can't really judge since I missed the part where he got into trouble. But in general, he does get rocked in the 5th or 6th. I still say move him to middle relief. We could have a nice happy little rotation with Schills, Randy, Webb, Batista and Villarreal.

This is not new. Brenly was doing the same thing a couple of years ago - in the World Series, no less.

If you're referring to the Kim thing...well, he wasn't a starter, so that doesn't really fall into the same category.

He was still leaving pitchers in too long.
