    Da'Norris Searcy cleared to return

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina safety Da'Norris Searcy has been cleared to return this weekend against East Carolina after missing three games amid an ongoing NCAA investigation.

Searcy started all 13 games last season, but the school held him out of the first three games to determine his eligibility.

Thirteen players missed the opener against LSU while the NCAA reviewed agent-related benefits and possible academic violations in the football program. Tailback Shaun Draughn was cleared to return against Georgia Tech, while the NCAA announced a six-game suspension for cornerback Kendric Burney and a four-game suspension for safety Deunta Williams last week.

The status of nine players remains in question, including NFL prospects Marvin Austin and Robert Quinn.

    I'm a Tar Heel, but------

    It looks bad!

An agent loans money to an Asst. Coach, who has influence over players. The story sounds fishy to me. Whatever financial problems Blake had, that story sounds fishy. Blake was obligated to that agent. He owed him alot of money. Of course he was funneling players to the agent. A major penalty is coming for the football program!
Secondly, an academic crisis is also uncovered amongst players. Not good.

Now, Davis may not have known anything. Blake thought he could keep it quiet, and Austin tweeted out the truth. During the NCAA investigation, the academic cheating came out, which Davis also may not have known about. Put the two things together, and you can see why people are calling for his resignation. He wasn't running a tight ship! Compliance is a major concern at every school. UNC obviously preaches this on the surface. What happened behind closed doors? Like any Tar Heel fan right now, I'm thoroughly disgusted!

    NCAA joins UNC academic probe

    :scholar:

CHAPEL HILL -- The NCAA was back on North Carolina’s campus Wednesday and Thursday, this time to take part in the school’s investigation into possible academic misconduct in the athletics program.

Athletics director Dick Baddour said Thursday that the investigator isn’t looking into the individual cases of football players who allegedly got inappropriate help from a tutor who once worked for both the school, and head coach Butch Davis. Instead, “they’re interested in looking at how we got here,’’ Baddour said. “You’ve got the issues with the individuals, but you’ve also got – are there any institutional issues?” :94poopbanana-thumb1

Having the investigator join in on interviews isn’t a surprise. When UNC uncovered the possible academic misconduct in August as part of the NCAA’s probe into improper agent benefits on the football team, Baddour said, the NCAA agreed that the school could investigate the academic issues, as long as it shared its findings with the NCAA along the way. Baddour called it a joint investigation. :nailbite2:

“What we’re doing now is we are expanding the investigation, as well as starting the process of evaluating the structure, and how we might get better,’’ Baddour said. “So the NCAA person is really not involved in the guys that we have already got in the pipeline. We have talked with the NCAA about them at various levels, so their courses are charted.”

It is unclear how many of the nine remaining Tar Heel football players who have been ruled ineligible, or withheld from competition, are in limbo because of academic issues. Baddour said earlier this week that 98 percent of his department investigation into possible academic misconduct on the football team is complete, and several cases are awaiting the ruling of the school’s Honor Court (although the athletic department will be looking into other university teams, as well).

Asked if the NCAA could still level any penalties based on what it finds during these academic interviews, Baddour said: “That’s always been a possibility.” :22_yikes:

But he’s also hoping the NCAA can give input on how the school can fix things.

He used the current tutor instructional manual as an example: “Were there things we could have done better? Are there any inconsistencies? Are there things the institution could have done to have made it more clear? And if there are, what are the institutional responsibilities from an NCAA standpoint? And so what does that tell you about the future?” :innocent:

Blake's NC attorney is Wade Smith? There isn't a heavier hitter than Wade. Shit. Fuck. Hell. Damn.

I wish we could go ahead and say adios to Butch and Baddour. Lee Fowler is better than this freakin' circus.

Baddour's got some explaining to do also. The tutor program falls under his control.
