    Seriously.

I'm guessing the coaches get to decide which game MA has to sit out?

My guess UNC will petition for him to sit out a scrimmage game.

I dunno. Does the NCAA decide the game or the school? Chapel Hill doesn't really have a "gimmie" game until UVA and that game is in Charlottesville where the Heels haven't won since the bronze age.

I don't think UNC can pick the game and he has to sit out the first game of the year.

Davis calls Blake "a very good teacher," declines to discuss NCAA probe

Here's a transcript of the questions about Blake and Davis' response from today's press conference:

Q: What was the primary reason that you hired John Blake?

Davis: "He was a very good teacher, a good defensive line coach."

Q: Was there any question in your mind about his relationship with Gary Wichard? Any concern?

Davis: "Any question in my mind? No. ... I'm not talking about any of the things that have anything to do with this review."

Q: Just to be clear, you're saying that the assistant coach is involved in the review?

Davis: "Just to be clear, I said we're not going to talk about the review."

Q: I didn't ask you about the review, I asked you about a coach.

Davis: "I know you did and I told you that anything that has anything to do with any kind of investigation or any kind of review, we're not going to talk about it. I'd be happy to talk all you want about football."

Letter to agents names six UNC players
    :yikes:

    By Robbi Pickeral

    Posted: Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010

The N.C. Secretary of State’s office has asked sports agents registered in North Carolina to preserve all information regarding six Tar Heel football players.

In the letter sent to agents, obtained by The N&O and dated July 23, the office of Elaine Marshall states: "The Department of the Secretary of State is requesting that you preserve all documents, tangible things and electronically stored information that you possess regarding the following individuals: Marvin Austin, Greg Little, Deunta Williams, Kendric Burney, Bruce Carter, and Quan Sturdivant."

Austin, a defensive tackle, and Little, a wide receiver, were among an undisclosed number of players interviewed by the NCAA last month as part of an investigation into allegations of impermissible contact between sports agents and college football players at several schools, including UNC. All six players were considered NFL draft picks after last season, but opted to return for their senior years.

The letter – which was signed by Christopher B. Rawls, the enforcement attorney for the securities division – is part of the Secretary of State's investigation into possible improprieties by sports agents in the state.

The North Carolina Uniform Athlete Agent Act requires agents to register with the Secretary of State's office and inform a school's athletic director within 72 hours of agreeing to a contract with an athlete.

Agents are prevented from furnishing anything of value to athletes before they enter a contract, and they are prohibited from making false representations. Violating the law is a Class I felony.

Liz Proctor, a spokeswoman for Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, said the department won't comment on an ongoing investigation.

Earlier this week, Proctor did confirm that a letter was sent out to all 107 agents registered in North Carolina, and to other individuals identified in media reports about the case.

California-based agent Gary Wichard, who has been mentioned in reports because of his ties to North Carolina assistant coach John Blake, is among those who have been sent letters even though he has never been registered in the state.

The letter also asks that agents contact the Secretary of State’s Office “if you have had any communications with the above named individuals, or to self-report a violation under the Act. If you are concerned that another athlete agent may have violated the Uniform Athelet Agents Act, please provide us with the information.”

UNC hires former NCAA attorney to advise on investigation

    :judge:

The University of North Carolina has hired a lawyer with a background in NCAA rules compliance to advise the school while the NCAA investigates the Tar Heels football program.

Rick Evrard, a lawyer with Bond, Schoeneck & King in Overland Park, Kan., spent seven years on the NCAA staff, first as an enforcement representative and later as director of legislative services.

North Carolina athletic director Dick Baddour said the school is using Evrard as a consultant. NCAA investigators have been to campus twice in the last six weeks in a probe of possible improprieties between football players and sports agents.

Baddour said he still has complete faith in assistant athletic director for compliance Amy Herman and university legal counsel Leslie Strohm. :2thumbsup:

“This is just something that we felt like, let’s don’t leave any stone unturned,” Baddour said this morning. “Let’s don’t look back on this and wish we had done something in a different way. Somebody who has experience going through this who can bring knowledge about what other schools have done, what’s been helpful in the past, what’s not been helpful, and help us know what to expect at each turn.” :willy_nilly:

Evrard sometimes helps schools conduct their own, independent investigations, but Baddour said he won’t do that for North Carolina. Although Evrard has visited Chapel Hill during this process, he won’t conduct any interviews.

Connecticut and Kansas are among the schools Evrard has advised.

“Leslie Strohm and I talked about it for some time and we thought that would be a good thing for us to do,” Baddour said. “We felt like it could be helpful. Other schools who had used similar kind of counsel have commented that it was helpful to them.”
