Shinn won't sell, he's gonna take his chances with the other owners and hope they don't tell him to stay put. He's not selling on purpose just so he can thumb his nose at Charlotte, the city that once loved him and now hates his guts. He brought the hatred upon himself, he's a shitty owner and a shitty person. He's an asshole. His boy Wooldridge isn't any better either. Our only hope is that NBA sees what assholes they are, force him to sell, and improve the NBA-owner image overall. Having a minority-owned team wouldn't hurt either. Heres to hope but I've already waved goodbye.

I think Shinn is fucked. The league does NOT want Shinn in. They do NOT want New Orleans as a market.

They would love a black owner. Great publicity and they know it.

Here is a chance to get a respectable owner. Keep the team in Charlotte and get rid of Shinn.

The owners will block the move. Then Shinn HAS to sell.

Don't they have to sell a certain # of luxury suites and season tickets in NO before like March 15 or something? I read that they weren't even halfway there. I'd like to see how they get out of THAT one, I think Shinnridge imposed the # of sales upon themselves.

  4. But Freakshow, think about. Will the owners really give up their power? By saying that a city can force a team to sell, they're giving away their franchises to the cities they live in. They might not like each other, but they're the only friends they've got.

Charlotte wont be forcing Shinn to sell though. Shinn would be forced to sell but it wont be the city making him do it. Basically it will be the owners. They will say to Shinn that there is no reason for the team to move from Charlotte because he has a offer on the table. Shinn cannot be profitable in Charlotte but that is really not Charlotte's fault. Therefor he would have to sell.

In other words the owners may tell Shinn "We think Charlotte can be a profitable market." Shinn of course can longer make Charlotte profitable. Charlotte as a market is vauluable to the NBA and shouldn't be punished for Shinn's transgressions.

Guys, realize that the NBA C-A-N-N-O-T legally force an owner to sell their team; only MLB can do this with their anti-trust exemption. They did this in 1992 (or 93) when they prevented the San Francisco Giants from being sold to a group in Tampa Bay. I T-H-I-N-K former owner Bob Laurie was in fact required to stay with the team as a minority owner while he sold the team to Peter Magowan (Safeway Co. Chairman) & Company . . . The NBA would be looking at a massive lawsuit if they tried to twist Shinnridge's arm and force them to sell to Robert Johnson & Co. . . . .

AH but a team CAN be stripped of its franchise if the NBA feels the ownship has hurt the team... and then a NEW Charlotte Hornets franchise can be awarded to another owner

how about if the commitee votes to say, "no, you cant move to new orleans" -- then where are shinnridge left?

it's the one bit of power the nba has here.

by forcing the team to stay in charlotte, shinn would have to play ball or continue to lose millions each year. he'd die a slow death with the ownership groups circling overhead like vultures (and the offer dropping by the millions with each passing month).
