Tim Worrell, fourth in the National League with 38 saves last season, is drawing big interest from Atlanta and could be close to a multiyear deal. The Braves see him as a set-up man and occasional fill-in for closer John Smoltz. The Giants did not offer Worrell arbitration Sunday. Sources tell Insider's Jerry Crasnick that Toronto had made a serious run at Worrell but dropped out when it became apparent the releiver was leaning toward Atlanta.
Agent Paul Cohen declined to discuss specifics, but said he's talked with several clubs. "A couple of teams are looking at Tim to close, and a couple are looking at him to pitch the eighth inning," Cohen said. "It's interesting, because I don't think that many guys historically have been in that either-or situation."

Could the interest be so they could move smoltz back to starter?

:D Phillies pull the wool out from under the Braves and sign Tim Worrell to chump change contract. Around 5 million total for 2 years to act as setup guy for Wagner :D

The Braves did pick up a quality starter in John Thomson signing him to a two year deal.Thomson won 13 games for a very poor Texas Rangers team last year. The righty has excellent control allowing only 49 walks in well over 200 innings pitched.

Looks like the Braves are going to be cutting costs. They've broken off negotiations with Maddux.

I think that he fell under the same deal in salary arbitration. Had to offer it by last Sunday otherwise no conversations until May 1

Well the Braves have been needing to rebuild to an extent for a long time, looks as though they are going to get their chance. They needed to do away with some of the post season jinx players. Although I wish they could have kept Sheff.

I'll be honest I'd rather have Vlad than I would Sheff. that's not suggesting the Braves will get Vlad or that Sheff. would play bad... just that Vlad's younger and plays beter defense.. I'd rather pay big money for long term quality youth
