Found an interesting story on yahoo today of a trade that almost happened yesterday. Atlanta was heavily going after Texas Rangers 2nd basemen Alfonzo Soriano. The Braves were offering Marcus Giles, pitcher Jorge Sosa and another minor league prospect for Soriano and Ranger outfielder, Kevin Minch. From all indications, Texas was the team that backed out of the deal. Atlanta was willing to give up Sosa after all the great work he has done for the Braves this season filling in for injured starters Mike Hampton and John Thomson.

Fookie, Soriano, Chipper, Andruw...that would have been a mighty scary top of the order for Atlanta.

    Shame that didn't go down

    Furcal
    Soranio
    Jones
    Jones
    Laroche
    Francour
    Estrada
    Johnson

That wouldn't have been a bad lineup.

I have to disagree. Maybe Langerhans and a prospect for Mench but I would have been mad if Giles and Sosa had been traded. Just as well they didn't make a deal, the chemistry on this ball club is outstanding. And Francoeur has been tearing it up in RF. If you want Mench you have to trade Langerhans or Johnson, and that would be Langy.

Glad this deal didn't go down, the Braves need Sosa in their rotation and when Hampton and Thomson come back, he will make their bullpen even stronger.

anyone seen soriano field lately? or ever? giles is no great glove man, but next to soriano he looks like a hoover. i'm glad this one didn't work out.

I like Soriano but I'm glad this one fell through. Sosa looks like a keeper to me and Giles gets the job done.
