Mother's Finest was a great band in the early 80's, did some local appearance stuff in live cover bars - saw them sing "Piece of the rock"..

bass player and drummer I know were in a band called brothers for mother with a sorta copied groove. I can get into it if I negate the 80's feel.

Used to be a Live Cover Bar in Wilmington called "Four Winds" Mothers Finest appeared there along with the Voltage Brothers which had the next best horn section to Earth Wind and Fire....

Baby Love - Great MF song.

I saw them (barely) one time. Sophomore year at ASU (1981). late sunday afternoon still hungover. This chick begged me and this other guy to go with her to southern Pines to see Mothers Finest. it was about a four hour drive and I didn't really want to go ( she was not that hot ) but she promised beer and a sleep in the back seat so I went.

Got there just as the band started playing. One song - sounded great - then the sound system started messing up and they just quit playing and started packing up. I was drunk and pissed and chucked a full beer at the roadies on the stage

next thing I knew my ass was eating gravel after the bouncer tossed me into the parking lot.

the bar was still open so I had to sneak back in and dodge that bouncer the rest of the night.

so the band sucked that night but they still were a great band to rock out to.

that's something else. Nice story to have in the arsenal. Not like having Eric Clapton throw up on you, but you take what you can get nowadays :D

Sounds like we caught their NC tour the same year..

I got up on stage with this fine babe one time when the Voltage Brothers were singing "The Bird", they wanted a guy and girl to come up and do the Bird with them...
