Kind of hard to forget about Kasay in the Superbowl loss.

Kasay has enough good will to make up for the SB kick (and that miss against TB wtf was that?)

Kasay and Moose belong in the Ring of Honor, Hoov does not.

it is indeed. as a neat compare and contrast though, it's easy to forget his game-winning, division-taking, playoff-clinching kick versus arizona that same season.
really though, until either anderson or andersen get in the hall, it's all just what-ifs.

The thing about kickers is that they are just paid to kick. No decisions to be made and the rare time he has to react to anything is on trying to get in the way of a return. Is he not told where and who to kick it to?
    Kickers...meh...

This. There are no retired numbers on the Panthers, and won't be as long as Richardson is around (and likely none after that).

We're a young fan base that's desperate for "tradition", but at what cost? Do you really want to look back after 50 years as a team and see that we retired the number of a fullback who never made the Pro Bowl?

mangum doesn't deserve any honor as a player. not so much an unfair criticism of him, it's just how it is. i don't know that any of those names would be deserving. hoover was a fan favorite, and was never superlative at the position. he was a mostly adequate blocker.

i do think 51 is retired.

i share the opinion on kickers in hall. i don't think kasay belongs there. but, should one of those other names get in at some point, kasay has stats that compare favorably.

51 IS retired. It will never be worn again. It was an 'unofficial' retirement of the number for years as Jackie Miles would not issue the number in honor of Sam. They made the retirement official the season after he died.

Mangum? Playing 10 years does not mean you deserve any kind of Ring of Honor recognition. Wesley Walls is the best TE in team history and he is not in the Ring.

I do not see anyone on the current or past roster that is worthy of having his number retired. Remember, the roster sizes do not really allow you to take a number out of the rotation forever. The Ring of Honor is there to honor the all time great players in franchise history. The key word is GREAT. Just because a player was a fan favorite or a pretty good player doesn't make him worthy of the Ring.

What qualifies as great? Kasay is a multiple time Pro Bowler, lead the league in field goal percentage more than one year, is the teams all time leading scorer, is the last original Panther, has an NFC Championship ring, has played in 2 NFC Championship games, is a solid team leader, and as you said is fan favorite.

    What more is needed?
