Oh yeah... I'm jealous of Brian Jordan... he's a GREAT leader... "Listen guys THIS is how you sit on the bench with an injury... HEY HEY be careful Ramon... you don't spti your sunflower seeds just right you can put out an eye." Yup missing that... I'll trade that any day for Sheffield... since Atlanta has the best record in baseball he's useless... he's no leader... they're without one I guess... notice how they aren't smart enough to be floundering around at the bottom of their division... damn good leader would teach them how I guess :D

Don't be shocked if this Braves team goes a little farther... sum bitches can hit this year... in the past they were carried by their pitchers... this year its more runs being added up.

that was Chad Hermansen, my roommate from 1995 for the Erie Seawolves. :D we were in the same draft, he got $1.5 million out of high school in Las Vegas and was a first round pick, I won't even say what you get in the 24th round as a college senior. :D I think they gave me gas money to drive to that god for saken town and a case of beer.

to clear up this buying players once and for all. the braves currently have one(1) first round pick on their roster from their own drafting. chipper at #1 in 90'. after that theres a couple of single digit rounders sprinkled in, with the rest double digit round picks. now metro knows more about this than any of us, and he just made it clear that for those later round picks, you get the chance to prove yourself, and not much in the financial department. soooo, how is eyeing good talent in the draft at all related to having a big wallet?

    it's not.

not sure exactly the what you are asking but here is my opinion. Anyone can draft studs. Montreal has had a killer system for years, but as soon as they get to the bigs, they can't pay em'. Big money teams like Atlanta and NY can use their pockets on scouting (more scouts) and more minor league teams (extra rookie teams like appalachan league), but it doesn't always mean more great talent finds, but it does probably produce more prospects for trade bait. don't forget about free agents either. all those dominicans go undrafted. Andru Jones is a good example. Big money does pay off with scouting down there. Its like recruiting except those kids sign to highest bidder at 16.

Breaking the bank: Brown agrees to $105 million, 7-year deal with Dodgers

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Kevin Brown became the first baseball player to break the $100 million barrier, agreeing Saturday to a $105 million, seven-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The deal set a record both for total dollars and average annual value ($15 million). The previous high for average salary, $13.33 million, was set less than two weeks ago, when first baseman Mo Vaughn agreed November 25 to an $80 million, six-year contract with the Anaheim Angels.

The previous high for dollars was set October 23, when catcher Mike Piazza agreed to a $91 million, seven-year deal with the New York Mets.

"We think Kevin Brown is a big part of our future," Dodgers general manager Kevin Malone said. "We're comfortable with the terms. We feel like we logically evaluated the marketplace. We needed the player, we wanted the player and we made the commitment to our fans to becoming a winning team."

Breaking the $100 million mark is sure to bring an outcry among some owners against Rupert Murdoch, who took over the Dodgers in March. With Murdoch's billions, Los Angeles has made major upgrades in an effort to return to the World Series for the first time since 1988.

"I never thought we'd see the day of a $91 million player," said Dodgers senior vice president Tom Lasorda, who is Piazza's godfather. "There's only one thing certain in baseball -- nothing is certain."

Brown gets a $5 million signing bonus, $10 million next year and $15 million in each of the following six seasons. As part of the deal, the Dodgers will givehim the use of a private plane 12 times per season to commute to Los Angeles from Brown's home in Macon, Georgia. He also gets a no-trade clause.

Anaheim, Baltimore, Colorado and St. Louis also were among the finalists for Brown, a 33-year-old right-hander who went 18-7 with a 2.38 ERA for San Diego this year. He helped Florida win the World Series in 1997, then was traded to the Padres as part of the Marlins' payroll purge and helped San Diego reach for the World Series for the first time since 1984.

"As I told him, he makes the rest of the pitchers better pitchers," Lasorda said. "I told him, 'You don't need to say one word to be a leader. What you do and the way you pitch makes you a leader.'"

Brown's agent Scott Boras, had said since last summer he would get his client a deal at least six years long and approach or set record numbers. Brown's value increased when he led the Padres into the World Series against the Yankees.

"Everyone knows the value of a No. 1 pitcher," Boras said Friday night. "The premium is Kevin Brown has taken a good club and put it in the World Series."

Since the end of the season, Los Angeles agreed to a $12.4 million, three-year contract with center fielder Devon White and a $6.5 million, three-year contract with reliever Alan Mills.
The Dodgers also acquired catcher Todd Hundley and reliever Mel Rojas from the New York Mets, lost free agent pitchers have Scott Radinsky and Brian Bohanon and dealt outfielder Bobby Bonilla to New York.

well my point was really for franchise. he keeps saying the braves are going out and buying talent. i keep saying they are adding great players yes, but they are picking several of these guys up young and developing them. yes, they do have several NDFA. javy, andruw, furcal. but they still have to spot the good ones young, and develop them.

i would never argue with you on this metro. you've seen it from the inside. its a shame for teams like montreal and kc (who i feel has put some real talent into the league in the past few years as well), who can't be able to resign these guys when they make it big.
