    UPDATE

Nov 21 - The Cubs' signing of Alfonso Soriano has intensified trade rumors swirling around Manny Ramirez, the Boston Herald reports.
The Angels could be a possible suitor. According to the Boston Globe, the Halos might have positioned themselves for a possible trade by signing free agent setup man Justin Speier, freeing setup man Scot Shields in a possible package deal that also could include a starting pitcher, Ervin Santana, or a top prospect such as Brandon Wood.

The Rangers also are talking about a deal for Ramirez, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports. Texas is looking for a bat to help bolster its lineup, in an offseason in which they might lose Carlos Lee, Mark DeRosa and Gary Matthews Jr.

    Manny is Manny

Manny is terrible in the outfield, but he is maybe the best pure hitter of our time. He hits good pitches, bad pitches, and kills the Yankees. If he is gone to the Bay, the bastards in the Bronx are happy.

according to The Globe, one scenario has Manny going to the Padres, with the sox asking for Jake Peavy in return.

Peavy's only 26 and is signed through the end of 08 with a club option in 09. He'll make less than $11 million over the next two years. If he can return to his 2005 form, and JD drew can put up, say, 30/100 and average close to .300, that wouldn't be a bad trade-off.

still, it annoys the hell out of me that JD Drew is commanding $14 million a year, and that Theo is willing to give it to him.

It is amazing what these guys make. Where does it end?

JD is a good player. I watched him play with the Braves. A lot of people don't realize he is a solid outfielder. He would be an upgrade at center for some teams.

I do have to wonder why you would let Damon go to the Yankees. Didn't he get 13 million? That currently doesn't sound unreasonable for a centerfielder/leadoff man. Plus, it's the Yankees.

A hitting machine, Ramirez topped 30 homers and 100 RBIs for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons... His numbers would have been better if not for the fact he started just six games over the last month of the season because of right knee woes... Ramirez hit .355 at Fenway Park and .288 on the road. I hope he goes to a NL team, or he will be a Red Sox killer!
