They spent under the cap so they would have room for future growth. They have very few players under contract for more than a year. I think Okafor, Rush, Hart, Slay, and Brezec are the only ones that will be around for sure after this year. They left space to see who could prove themselves, and then they draft high this year. In 3 years they have full cap room, and established core, and probably 3 top 10 picks. At that point they can hit the free agent market with a HUGE ass amount of cap space. They'll have room to pick up 2 or possibly 3 big free agents and make a heavy run at their division. Simply put they're building for the future.

See, Bernie may have a mediocre coaching record, but I really, really like him as a general manager.

Wallace may need to be part of the core.

They tried to get him to sign an extension, but he said he wants to wait till season's end and explore the FA market... basically that means... I wanna show myself off here and then go to a contender for big bucks.

I'd be all for it if he could hit a jumper. He's got the physical ability and the hustle... just not worth anything outside of 5 feet.

Dear Orlando, thanks for passing up the best player in the draft. We needed him.

    Thanks,
    Mags

Wallace is situationally very good. Needs to be backed by a shooter, yes.

Wallace is worth the money in rebounds, and his inside game. Sure, an outside shot would be great, but I'm happy with him right now for what we are paying him.

He should stick. But we gotta have a shooter, too. Luckily, there are enough guys out there who can't do anything else.

That's why we have Kapono, Bogans, and Rush. They shoot. Wallace can stick to dunking and rebounding. Oh, and nasty blocked shots, too.

Wallace is averaging 1.32 blocks a game, and has 155 rebounds this season, same as Primoz.
