Oden is a never-was. Bynum has established himself as a top three center in the league when healthy. Obviously that's an enormous caveat, but that's the only reason Charlotte even has the chance to sign him. I also don't like his attitude at all, yet who sees a light at the end of this tunnel without doing something major? Not only have high draft picks failed to make a difference so far, but remember that Chicago is going to get one of those first round picks really soon. Bynum is arguably the best scoring center and the Bobcats need low-post scoring as much as anything. If healthy then he's a star you can build around. Even though he probably won't be healthy in most seasons, it's not like Charlotte has any other players to build around anyway. No free agents are ever going to come here if anyone else offers them anywhere near the same money. To get a potentially elite player it will have to be some kind of serious risk. This is the time to gamble.
