Sources: Smith traded for Malik Allen

    RICK BONNELL

    Staff Writer

Pending NBA approval, the Charlotte Bobcats made a late-afternoon trade Thursday, sending Steve Smith to the Miami Heat for forward Malik Allen, league sources told the Observer.
The deal sends Smith, one of the Bobcats' captains, to the Heat, where he started his pro career. The Heat approached the Bobcats earlier in the week, with Thursday's 3 p.m. trade deadline approaching.

Allen, a 6-foot-10 forward, has played the last three seasons with the Heat. This trade gives Smith, 35, the chance to play on a title contender; the Heat has the best record in the Eastern Conference.

So is Malik Allen any good. And why do we trade him for a player and not pick. or a player and a cash

I'm gonna go with both. I hate to lose him for less than a 2nd rounder.

Wow. We gave up the butthole to a team.

"in recent trade activity, Charlotte receives Malik Allen for Steve Smith and their dignity."

The 6-10, 250-pound forward has appeared in 151 career games with 81 starts, averaging 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 22.1 minutes.

hes 6-10 and we got some cash, Smith is 35 and its not like he was carrying the team. Bernie treated him like a vetran and wasn't going to deny him the opprotunity to go to a contender. not a bad trade at all really, just no big names.

On The Page this morning, Bernie said that they had promised Smith that if a contending team came knocking, they'd trade him. So, they honored their word, got a fairly young big guy and some cash.

It really does not make much difference, Smith was not a big contributor, and it was a classy move.
