CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Primoz Brezec had 11 points and 13 rebounds to lead the expansion Charlotte Bobcats to their first preseason win, 69-63 over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.

Steve Smith added 11 points, including a jumper with 1:35 left that put the Bobcats up by six, and Gerald Wallace had nine points, nine rebounds and eight steals to help Charlotte end a four-game losing streak.

The crowd of 11,391 gave the Bobcats a standing ovation in the closing seconds for their first win since becoming the NBA's 30th member.

Derek Anderson scored 19 of his 22 points in the first half, and Zach Randolph added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Portland, which shot 31 percent and committed 28 turnovers.

The Blazers managed just five field goals in the second half and blew an 11-point second-quarter lead.

Randolph's 3-point play with 10:11 left in the third gave Portland a 45-35 lead. But the Bobcats responded with a 10-0 run over a seven-minute span.

The Blazers shot just 2-for-16 in the period.

Smith's 3-pointer and Brezec's dunk off a feed from Jason Hart gave Charlotte a 59-54 lead with 7:02 left.

The Bobcats were without Brandon Hunter (sprained left ankle), while Jamal Sampson missed his fifth straight game with a right ankle injury. Melvin Ely, who missed two games with the flu, returned to score four points in 19 minutes.

Theron Smith missed his fifth straight game. Coach Bernie Bickerstaff said the medical staff wanted Smith to test his injured left knee for a week to determine if he'll need surgery   :applause:

11,391 sure does not look like a lot on TV  Most of all come after halftime.
