In what has to be the strangest departure in the Charlotte Bobcats' brief history, the team cut shooting guard Kareem Rush Saturday, with just a handful of games left in the season.

Rush did not play in Friday's loss to the Chicago Bulls and later met with Bobcats coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff about his status.

This was the second time in the last six games that Rush did not play at all, by coach's decision, after being a starter for much of the season.

"We had a conversation, and it ended abruptly," Bickerstaff

Now Phil Jackson is talkin shit about cutting Rush. Bernie aint havin it. Public catfights are always good PR, especially for a team with little public recognition.

Bobcats' Bickerstaff to Phil Jackson: MYOB

Bernie Bickerstaff to Zen Master: Mind your own business.

Sunday, Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson criticized the Charlotte Bobcats for abruptly cutting Kareem Rush, calling the act "vindictive." Monday, Bickerstaff -- the Bobcats' coach-general manager -- bit back.

"Phil has that ability," to judge, Bickerstaff said sarcastically. "He was in our locker room … at our games."

Then Bickerstaff brought up Jackson's tell-all memoir, "The Last Season," on the Lakers' 2003-04 season. Jackson frequently revealed private conversations in that book and wrote, among other criticisms of players and colleagues, that Kobe Bryant was "uncoachable."

"He probably forgets he wrote a book for profit and (revealed everybody's confidences). So he has no credibility," Bickerstaff said of Jackson.

Jackson made his comments Sunday at the Lakers' home game against the Houston Rockets. The Bobcats waived Rush Saturday, indicating in a press release that Rush fell short of the team's expectations for effort.

"I thought it was vindictive," Jackson told reporters in Los Angeles. "I don't like to see it because he was one of the guys that we nurtured here."

Rush played for Jackson with the Lakers before being traded to the Bobcats during Jackson's one-year hiatus from coaching. Now Jackson is back with the Lakers and he apparently wants Rush back on his team.

"When I came back, one of my first considerations was, `Can we get Kareem Rush back here to play on this basketball club?'." Jackson said.

That's now within the Lakers' power: Any NBA team can claim Rush's contract off waivers.

Pretty sure Raymond Felton and Gerald Wallace could find roster spots on any NBA team. We do suck, but we've got some good young players, just takes time man. It's only our second year.
