The problem with the last team is that they took on too many bad contracts. Wallace and Jackson are pieces most teams would like to have. The trouble was that they were not enough and there was no way to get more help with all the bad contracts taking up cap space.

cap space? this is charlotte, not miami. you don't need cap space unless you are looking to sign free agents. did i miss where howard put the bobcats on his list of teams he wants to play for?

Strangely enough they're having their best season ever attendance wise so far this year. I'm sure that will change as the year goes on, but still...

wow. i wonder, tho, what the gate numbers are. certainly selling tickets is gonna get your revenue, but people showing up to the games is probably just as important.

If they had kept the team that made the playoffs intact they would have had no cap space to sign anyone. They would have been a 8 seed team paying the luxury tax.

well, technically, they could have amnestied diopp, but i suppose there was no way to know that an amnesty clause was coming.

still, let's pretend they're an 8th seed this year. they have jackson and wallace both entering the final years of their contracts. did you expect them to have turned the franchise around by 2013? stephen jackson will have retired by the time the bobcats make the playoffs again at this rate.

A good effort last night against the Suns, lost by 6 and Bismack had his second double-double. The different lineup put in the most energy than I`ve seen in a few games. Maybe a win is around the corner?

In order for them to have been playoff contenders here they stilll would have needed Tyson Chandler in the middle...which they couldn't afford to make happen. So really, they would have been in the situation they were in for the couple of years before they actually made the playoffs, playing hard but coming up 9th or 10th in the conference instead of 8th.

Gerald Wallace would have re-signed here, but Stephen Jackson wouldn't have. Assuming that we let Raymond Felton walk anyway, we'd have D.J. Augustin at point and probably Ian Schumpart at point guard instead of Kemba. We also probably don't make the deal to get Bismack Biyambo.

Certainly whoever they brought in to fill the roster wouldn't have been any worse than what we have now, but how much better would they have been? Not enough for it to make a difference, at least to me.

when silas took over, they had a reasonable surge. that team could certainly have made the playoffs as constructed.

bismack doesn't strike me as being anything special. kemba is a nice player, but then, so is shumpert. hard to imagine how you might have drafted in a different order, tho.

the thing is, the lotto isn't that great at turning teams around unless you get a great pick in a great year. sucking to get the #1 means you've got a sucky team with a good player on it. unless you sucked because of injury (like the spurs with tim duncan) one player isn't going to transform a franchise. well, cept maybe unless that player is lebron james.

i think the bobcats are at the stage where winning needs to be the most important thing going. the 09/10 season should have been something to build on, not rebuild from. letting chandler go was the first of the stupid mistakes they made.

would they have been competing for the championship? hell no. but i don't think you can realistically think that a championship team is something you put together in 2 or 3 years. not unless you collect all star free agents, which is not something that will happen in charlotte.

even if they had 3 or 4 years of being swept in the 1st round of the playoffs, i think that would have been better for the team than sucking for the sake of lotto positioning...

The Davis kid out of Kentucky sure would look good in a Bobcats uni.
