Hello and thanks in advance for reading this, any help would be GREAT since I NEED some of the info on this machine. The machine is an old DELL M140 xps, 2 GIGS Ram, Running XP Media Center.

    Here's the story:

    1) In March 2009 I downloaded something evil and it gave me the follwing code:

    ***STOP:0x000000F4

AT this point it was possible to access SAFE MODE

Note: all anti virus was current, registry cleaners were used as well as spyware removal.

    2) I put the laptop on the shelf and haven't touched it until today (In January I switched to a MAC, I have a mac mini, imac and an new air).

    3) I have been trying to fix this problem most of the day in SAFE MODE all anti virus programs (Brand new) and registry cleaners (new) forced a crash. Last known Good config was a failure and the computer wouldn't let do a system restore BEFORE the infection. As I continued the SECOND error showed up:

    4) Error 2:

    kernel_data_inpage_error

    stop 0x0000007a

    5) I can't boot in SAFE or anything else, I'm in the middle of a second DELL Diagnostic test and I'm getting the following:

The first test showed the following JUST ONCE :

Msg: BLOCK 56067741: Unncorrectable data eeror or media.....

The second test has shown this with different block numbers over 20 times (and I'm only half way through the second test) now so whatever this is it's getting worse.

I have information on this machine that I must get to also I'd like to be able to use this machine I have one program that I need that can't run on MAC.

Any help would be great. Thanks

How do you know whether or not your files are contaminated?

with viruses? Well for starters very few of your standard files get viruses now. The virus creators don't really target you average documents etc. now.

But regardless when you hook the drive up to another machine, you should be able to scan all your files w/ a virus scanner, and as long as nothing is active you should be able to clean before they can infect anything else.
