Can't find the story but it is all over the TV. BE picks ups 5 new teams from CUSA. Some Mentioned, SFLA, CIN, LOU. I think Marquette was mentioned for basketball only.

    CUSA is dying.

    Found it.

TAMPA - After weeks of speculation, rumors and misinformation - remember the CBSSportsline report that had USF headed to the Mid-American Conference? - the ``worst kept secret in sports'' finally will become official.
At 2 p.m. today from New York's Grand Hyatt, Big East Commissioner Mike Tranghese will extend invitations to South Florida, Cincinnati, Louisville, DePaul and Marquette to join the Big East.

And faster than you can say ``BCS,'' those five presidents will accept from their respective campuses, setting off celebrations/ news conferences in Tampa, Cincinnati, Louisville, Chicago and Milwaukee.

``We are the rising star,'' USF President Judy Genshaft said after the Bulls' double overtime football victory against Cincinnati on Friday.

The five Conference USA schools' move to the Big East, which Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino said was the ``worst kept secret in sports,'' is expected to take place in 2005.

However, one of the athletic directors making the switch believes once all the conference shuffling is complete there will be a strong sentiment to move the timetable up to 2004.

``It's like a divorce,'' the AD said. ``Once the divorce is final, why would you still live in that house for another year if you had another house waiting for you to move into?''

That's a question at least 16 schools involving six conferences will want to consider.

Two weeks ago at Conference USA's basketball media day, several coaches - including Pitino and USF's Robert McCullum - said they prefer to make the move in 2004.

For that to happen, though, Boston College first would have to reach an agreement with the Big East. The Eagles aren't slated to join the ACC until 2006, unless they pay a $5 million exit fee required for leaving with less than a 27-month notice.

It's doubtful Boston College officials will pay that amount, but if the school and the Big East can agree on a lower figure, then the Eagles could join the ACC next season.

If so, it would set up a domino effect with the other teams and conferences, which would want all their new members aboard for 2004.
