    so jesus did away with the ten commandments? worshipping on sunday was one way in which constantine combined the christians and the pagans. the book of acts makes mention of meeting on the first day but that is it. also there is some historical belief that the jews had to get jesus off the cross before the sabbath, that would put the crusafixion on about a thursday. the old jewish calander runs from dusk to dusk. so technically the sabbath begins on friday night and ends on saturday night. if i have my history correct, it has been several years since i studied this.

    the adventists get downed because they are ver legalistic in how they live.

    I am not a theologan but I do know that much of the old ceremonial law that the jews lived under does not apply to christians. The moral law is still valid but the ceremonial law is not.

    jesus was the sacrificial lamb to was away sins, he did away with that spect of the jewish law, all the rest still holds true because they are all based out of the commandments and most are taught by the apostles throughout the nt.

    That is opening pandora's box. There are many OT laws that would be considered very strange today. I know Paul says some things on this, when I get a chance to look them up I will post it.

    Colossians 2:14-16 (King James Version)
    King James Version (KJV)

    14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

    15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

    16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

    Mark 2:27-28 (NASB)

    "Jesus said to them, 'The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

    'So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.'"

    Jesus said this shortly after He was called into account by the Pharisees for healing on the sabbath.

    I think the point He was making is that the sabbath isn't about forcing people into legalism or ritual, it's about carving out a day to rest and focus on God.

    I thought the point also was about love. Isn't one of the basics~is to love one another? The Pharisees were so hung up on the rules and regulations and more on how they looked then what was really in their hearts. They just passed by the suffering man, he just didn't fit into their program. Maybe he shoulda suffered on another day :xyzthumbs

    Exactly. The Pharisees were valuing their interpretation of the law more than their fellow human beings. Jesus had to rearrange their priorities and perception a bit there. :)
